SWANS are a post punk band known for their signature droning vocals and unique instrumentation, Led by singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Michael Gira, the band was one of the few groups to continue success after the early 1980s New York 'No Wave' scene, Swans have released ten albums since 'Filth' (1983) before breaking up in 1997, and re-emerged with a new album in 2010, releasing the triumphant 'My Father Will Guide Me Up A Rope To The Sky' after a 14-year hiatus. 'The Seer' has been a long time in the making, and involves the culmination of every previous Swans album, The songs began on an acoustic guitar, and were then fleshed out and further tortured and seduced in rehearsals, live, and in the studio, The record features contributions from Karen O (YEAH YEAH YEAHS), Alan Sparhawk and Mimi Parker of LOW, members of AKRON/FAMILY, Ben Frost, and Grasshopper from MERCURY REV, Songs on the album morphed throughout the last series of Swans tours, and were captured and lovingly adorned in the studio, The remaining songs on the album were developed from the ground up in the studio with participation and input from all contributing musicians.
