The first Rough Trade seven-inch singles boxset. This boxset features eight classic singles and B-
sides. Rather than a dry definitive history this is a personal and musical history of the label inspired by
Rough Trade's recent 45th anniversary. All the records included have been handpicked by our co-
MDs, Jeannette Lee and Geoff Travis, who were key players in the DIY nexus that formed around the
first Rough Trade shop in the late 1970s. Reggae, punk, alternative and electronic music surged
through the store's doors and then found an outlet through what became the world's most influential
indie label, Rough Trade Records.
Boxset 1 features music from: Augustus Pablo, Stiff Little Fingers, Subway Sect, Swell Maps, The
Raincoats, Cabaret Voltaire, The Pop Group and Young Marble Giants.
In each boxset, the seven-inch singles have been recreated to match the original and each box comes
with booklet featuring new sleeve notes, quotes from the artists themselves and notable people who
are either fans like Don Letts, or who worked on the recordings as is the case with Elvis Costello.
Along with archive photography, sourced in collaboration with many of the era's greatest
photographers, the sleeve notes feature two exclusive longform conversations between Jeannette and
Geoff discussing the singles included, the music scene at the time and their experiences creating
Rough Trade.
Each boxset is numbered and limited to 1,000 copies each worldwide.
