REFLECTIONS

Reflections is a recording of Sufjan Stevens' sixth collaboration with acclaimed choreographer Justin Peck. Originally commissioned for performances (May 17 - 26, 2019) by Houston Ballet, the piano duet was recorded at Oktaven Studios by Ryan Streber and performed by pianists Timo Andres and Conor Hanick. Reflections is characteristic Stevens: dynamic, melodic, memorable, emotionally resonant, and playful (one track is titled "And I Shall Come To You Like A Stormtrooper in Drag Serving Imperial Realness"). Though Stevens may be best known for his singer-songwriter catalog, Reflections - alongside other compositions like The BQE and The Decalogue - further establishes him as a contemporary composer.
