PLASTIC WESTERN [LP]

From the first hazy notes of 'It's Lonely in Doggie Hell,' the opening track of Same's debut LP 'Plastic Western', the band locks into a groove that neverreally lets up. But Plastic Western isn't a sprint toward a finish line, it's an album that takes its time to hang?out, get cozy, and soak in all the weird sights. It's easy to play the infuence game for Same. At times, they sound like listening to the Pixies or Pavement in a?meditative trance. At other times, it feels like Weezer dripping in acid and fuzz. It's a sound marked by rich reverb, bursts of jangly slacker-pop precision, and a?keen ear for experimentation-- especially on Plastic Western's lush instrumental title track. From the lazy meanderings of 'Landlady' and Como esta la serenidad to more driving tracks like 'Shoot It' and 'Cherry Pull 'N Peel,' each song on Plastic Western sets off in compelling and, sometimes, unexpected?directions. In every song, Jesse Caggiano's lyrics paint abstract images that cast an ethereal tinge over the music. 'You can either paint a picture of a sailboat, and every?time you see it it's always going to be a sailboat, or you can create and abstract painting that shows you something new every time you look at it,' he says of?his lyrics.
