This release contains Jimmy Smith''''s complete classic 1962 LP "Bashin'''' 'The Unpredictable Jimmy Smith", featuring the leader backed by a big band, and showcased in a trio set. The material consists of a combination between old standards and originals arranged by Oliver Nelson. As a bonus, two 45 RPM versions of tunes from the LP, as well as the trio album "Jimmy Smith Plays Fats Waller", recorded during the same year, and featuring the exact same formation as the trio tracks from Bashin'''' (with Smith''''s regular guitarist Quentin Warren and drummer Donald Bailey). As its title clearly indicates, it presents a selection of tunes composed or regularly performed by the great Fats Waller, who was one of the first jazzmen to devote extensive recordings to the organ.
